Welcome to The Book Tree, the online home of Jane Kohuth, a writer of books for children of all ages. Jane grew up in Brooklyn, New York, went to High School on Cape Cod, and now lives and works in Tulgey Wood, her historic home surrounded by woods in Holliston, Massachusetts. She lives with her husband Michael, her son Kameron, and their cats Esme and Pearl.

Jane graduated from Brandeis University with a degree in English and Creative Writing and from Harvard Divinity School with a Master's Degree in Theological Studies. Though not all of what she's studied makes an appearance in her work (no Biblical Hebrew yet), the habits of creative thought and curiosity she developed in school help her every day. She has worked as a Jewish educator, a children's room library assistant, a writing teacher, and a children's bookseller and organizer of author events. She is represented by Bookmark Literary (https://bookmarkliterary.com).

Jane is excited to announce that her newest picture book, SOMETHING ON THE HILL, illustrated by Sonia Sanchez, will be published by Random House, Anne Schwartz Books in spring, 2023. SOMETHING ON THE HILL is a quest starring a Field Mouse, her friends, and a mysterious voice.

Jane's books include DUCKS GO VROOM, ESTIE THE MENSCH, and ANNE FRANK'S CHESTNUT TREE, all published by Random House, and DUCK SOCK HOP, published by Dial. WHO'S GOT THE ETROG, a Sukkot holiday story set in the Abayudaya Jewish community in Uganda, was published by Kar-Ben in 2018. Her books have appeared on several best of the year lists, including Bank Street's Best Children's Books of the Year, The Chicago Public Library's Best of the Best Children's Books of the Year, The New York Public Library's Top Ten Picture Book Read-Alouds of the Year, The American Library Association's Great Early Elementary Reads, and Parent's Magazine's Twenty Best Books of the Year. ANNE FRANK'S CHESTNUT TREE was named a NCSS Notable Social Studies Trade Book for Young People. Both ESTIE THE MENSCH and WHO'S GOT THE ETROG are PJ Library Books.
